Malfy Gin was founded in 2016 by the Vergnano family alongside master distiller Denis Muni at the Torino Distillati facility in Moncalieri, Piedmont — a deliberate choice to anchor an Italian gin in a distillery with over a century of spirits heritage rather than build from scratch. The Originale expression is the house's foundational recipe, designed to demonstrate what Italian juniper-led gin looks like before fruit-forward variations enter the picture.

The botanical bill centres on Italian juniper berries sourced from Calabria and Tuscany, combined with Amalfi Coast IGP-certified lemon peel — a legally protected designation requiring fruit grown on the steep, sea-facing terraces above the Tyrrhenian. Those coastal conditions — salt-laden air, volcanic-limestone soils, and intense Mediterranean sun — concentrate essential oils in the peel to a degree that flat-land citrus cannot replicate. Distillation is carried out in copper pot stills, with botanicals macerated before the run, and the spirit is bottled at 41% ABV.

What separates Originale from the crowded Italian gin field is its restraint: where competitors lean into fruit-forward profiles, this expression keeps juniper structurally dominant while the lemon contributes brightness rather than sweetness — a gin built for the Negroni template as much as the spritz.
