Capel Pisco Reservado Moai (1 L)
฿2,199
Cooperativa Capel, founded in 1939 by growers in the Elqui Valley, built its Reservado expression around a cooperative model that keeps small-plot Muscat farmers economically viable in one of Chile's most extreme growing environments. The Elqui Valley sits in the Atacama fringe of the Coquimbo Region, where near-zero rainfall, intense UV radiation, and dramatic diurnal temperature swings — sometimes exceeding 20 °C — concentrate aromatic compounds in the Muscat grape to an unusual degree. Soils are predominantly sandy alluvial over decomposed granite, delivering low vigor and small, flavor-dense berries.
Production follows the Chilean Pisco DO specification: double distillation in copper pot stills, with the spirit rested but not oak-aged, preserving the raw floral and citrus character of the Muscat base. Bottled at 40% ABV, the Reservado tier sits above Capel's entry-level expressions and is presented in the distinctive Moai-shaped 1-litre bottle — a nod to Chile's Pacific identity that also functions as a collectible decanter. What separates this expression from most pisco in its price tier is the unaged, uncolored presentation, which places the entire sensory burden on distillate quality rather than wood influence, a demanding standard for a cooperative-scale producer.
