Pierre Ferrand Reserve 20 Year Cognac (700 ml)
฿5,100
When Alexandre Gabriel relaunched Maison Ferrand in 1989, he made a structural decision that separates this house from virtually every major Cognac négociant: estate-grown Grande Champagne fruit, distilled in-house, aged in-house — no purchased eaux-de-vie, no blending across crus. The Reserve 20 Year is the direct expression of that philosophy at two decades of maturation.
The fruit originates at Logis d'Angeac, a co-owned 100-hectare estate in the Angeac-Champagne commune — the so-called 'golden triangle' of Grande Champagne AOC. Soils are marine fossil limestone, extremely chalky, driving high natural acidity in the base Ugni Blanc wine that survives double distillation and becomes the structural backbone of the aged spirit.
Distillation is conducted slowly on unfiltered fine lees in unusually small 25 hl copper pot stills with onion-shaped heads — a configuration that maximises aromatic concentration and textural weight. Aging unfolds across seven cellars with deliberately varied humidity regimes: dry cement-floored cellars (30–60% humidity) contribute spice and grip; earthen-floored humid cellars (70–100% humidity) round and mellow the spirit over the 20-year span.
What sets this expression apart is the house's deliberate rejection of the standard VS/VSOP/XO ladder — the Reserve carries a proprietary designation, positioning it outside the commodity tier entirely. At 20 years in Grande Champagne's chalky terroir, rancio character begins to assert itself alongside dried fruit concentration and Limousin oak spice. Drink now through the next decade.
