Jermann Pinot Grigio DOC
฿฿
Silvio Jermann built his reputation in Collio by treating native and international varieties with equal seriousness — a stance that, in the 1970s, was genuinely contrarian in northeastern Italy. Pinot Grigio here is not an afterthought. The estate's vineyards sit on ponca, the region's signature flysch of alternating marl and sandstone, which drains freely while retaining just enough moisture to prevent heat stress during Collio's warm, Adriatic-influenced summers. That combination of sharp drainage and mineral-dense subsoil pulls the variety away from the soft, low-acid style common further west. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, preserving the site's saline, stony character without the interference of oak. The wine is bottled with enough residual freshness to carry its aromatic profile cleanly. What distinguishes this expression within the Collio Pinot Grigio field is its copper-tinged hue — evidence of brief skin contact that adds textural grip without tipping into orange-wine territory. Drink within two to three years of vintage to catch the citrus zest at its most precise.
