Cono Sur Tocornal Sauvignon Blanc
฿700
Cono Sur was the first Chilean winery to adopt screwcap closures for aromatic whites in 2002, a deliberate break from convention at a time when cork was still considered non-negotiable for any wine with export ambitions. The Tocornal Sauvignon Blanc sits within that same philosophy: preserve freshness through technical precision rather than tradition. Sourced from Colchagua Valley, where the home winery at Chimbarongo anchors Cono Sur's 1,246-hectare estate network, the fruit benefits from the valley's warm days and cool nights driven by Andean altitude influence, which slows ripening and retains natural acidity. Vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks — the winery holds 12 million litres of capacity — with no oak contact, preserving the variety's primary aromatic profile intact. Bottled under screwcap, the wine is sealed at peak freshness, consistent with the house's long-standing position that aromatic whites are better served by inert closure than by cork variability. Within a portfolio dominated by Pinot Noir ambition, this Sauvignon Blanc represents Cono Sur's volume-tier white program, built for immediate accessibility. Drink young, within 1–2 years of vintage, to capture primary fruit character at its most vivid.
