Chardonnay Brut Nature
฿฿฿
Elise Dechannes sources fruit from Côte des Bar, the southernmost Champagne subregion where Kimmeridgian limestone and clay soils dominate elevations around 200–250 meters. This terroir produces leaner, mineral-driven Chardonnays distinct from the chalk-heavy north.
The Brut Nature designation signals zero dosage—no post-disgorgement sugar adjustment—allowing the wine's natural acidity and mineral tension to remain unmasked. Extended aging on lees (specific duration not disclosed by producer) develops secondary complexity while the wine remains bone-dry, a technical choice that demands ripe, balanced fruit to avoid austerity.
Côte des Bar's cooler microclimate and limestone substrate yield wines with pronounced salinity and white-stone minerality. This expression captures the subregion's signature profile: high-strung acidity paired with lean body, the antithesis of the richer, butter-forward Champagnes from Côte des Blancs further north.
Drink now through 2032.
