Pelissero Dolcetto D’Alba Augenta
฿1,500
Azienda Agricola Pelissero is a family-run estate rooted in the heart of the Langhe, specifically in the district of Treiso. Founded by Luigi Pelissero, who transitioned the family business from grape-selling to estate bottling in 1960, the winery is now managed by his son, oenologist Giorgio Pelissero. The estate remains deeply committed to native Piedmontese varieties, with the "Augenta" bottling representing one of their flagship expressions. Its name is derived from the Latin "augere," meaning to increase or enlarge, reflecting a historical recognition that the vines on this specific hilltop consistently produced grapes of superior, enhanced quality compared to the surrounding area.
The unique terroir of the Augenta vineyard, situated at an altitude of 400 to 420 meters in the Ferrere subzone, features a hard, compact, and highly calcareous soil that challenges the vines and imparts an atypical tannic structure to the Dolcetto grape. Pelissero’s winemaking philosophy focuses on highlighting these site-specific characteristics through careful management, employing a 10 to 12-day maceration in temperature-controlled tanks followed by aging for 6 to 7 months in large 50-hectoliter oak barrels. This approach harmonizes the firm tannins and saline minerality driven by the stony soil, resulting in a structured and persistent wine that balances traditional Piedmontese austerity with polished, modern elegance.
