Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou Madame de Beaucaillou Haut -Medoc 2020
฿1,600
The 2020 vintage marks Ducru-Beaucaillou's 300th anniversary, and production was cut 25% below 2019 levels — a deliberate contraction that concentrates the estate's already severe selection philosophy into this second-label expression. Madame de Beaucaillou draws from the 16-hectare Haut-Médoc parcels in Cussac, where the same Günz-period gravel beds — quartz pebbles, lydian jasper, and flint deposited by the ancient Garonne roughly two million years ago over Oligocene mud — deliver the drainage and heat retention that define Left Bank structure. The estuary's four daily tidal movements moderate summer heat and deflect hail, preserving the freshness that gives the 2020 its chiselled, precise character at 13.5% ABV. The 81% Cabernet Sauvignon / 19% Merlot blend was vinified parcel-by-parcel in stainless steel, with long maceration and gentle extraction, before aging in French oak barriques — a regime that imparts structure without overwhelming the site's natural slate and graphite signature. What sets this expression apart is its access point into a house that restricts Grand Vin output to just 6,000–8,000 cases annually, with only 27% of total vineyard production selected upward — meaning Madame de Beaucaillou carries the same terroir logic and winemaking discipline, redirected. The 2020 drinks with succulence now but the architecture supports cellaring through 2035+.
