“Alenza” Gran Reserva Ribera Del Duero D.O.
฿฿฿
Gran Reserva, Ribera del Duero.
Condado de Haza's Alenza Gran Reserva originates from vineyards planted on the clay-limestone soils of Ribera del Duero's central plateau, where continental extremes—freezing winters and scorching summers—concentrate Tempranillo's phenolic maturity. The estate sits at approximately 750–850 meters elevation, where diurnal temperature swings extend ripening across autumn months.
This Gran Reserva designation mandates minimum 24 months oak aging followed by 36 months bottle age before release. The wine undergoes traditional fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then transfers to French and American oak for the extended élevage, allowing gradual oxidative softening of the tannin matrix while developing tertiary complexity. The extended wood contact—characteristic of the house style—builds layered oak integration rather than overt vanilla dominance.
Alenza represents Condado de Haza's commitment to age-worthy Tempranillo that balances power with structural elegance. The combination of high-altitude terroir, extended oak maturation, and bottle age creates a wine capable of further development through the next 8–12 years, though approachable upon release.
Vintage and drinking window subject to specific release year; consult retailer for current stock vintage.
