Saint-Julien Grand Cru Classé 2022
฿฿฿
Grand Cru.
Château Léoville Poyferré occupies a 80-hectare parcel in the heart of Saint-Julien's left bank, where deep gravel beds overlaid with clay and iron-rich soil define the appellation's signature structure. The 2022 vintage reflects the estate's traditional approach: Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend (65%), supported by Merlot (25%) and Petit Verdot (10%), harvested at optimal ripeness across the warm, dry growing season. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled concrete and wooden vats, with malolactic conversion in barrel to integrate the wine's natural acidity. The final assemblage ages 18 months in French oak (50% new), building the textural complexity characteristic of the estate's house style—less opulent than Pichon-Longueville, more austere and mineral-driven than its immediate peers. The 2022 demonstrates the vintage's ripe fruit expression without sacrificing the linear, age-worthy structure that defines left-bank Médoc. Drinking window: 2026–2050.
