Descendant 2007
฿฿฿
SaleTorbreck's Descendant emerges from the producer's oldest vineyard holdings across the Barossa Valley, a region defined by deep, iron-rich loam over limestone subsoil at elevations between 300–400 metres. The site's continental climate—hot days moderated by cool evening drainage from the Adelaide Hills—concentrates phenolic ripeness while preserving acidity in the fruit.
The 2007 vintage was crafted from 100% Shiraz, destemmed and fermented in open vessels with extended maceration to extract colour and tannin structure. The wine spent 18 months in French oak (a mix of new and seasoned barriques), with regular lees stirring during the first six months to build textural complexity. No fining or filtration preceded bottling, preserving the wine's natural sediment and mid-palate density.
Descendant stands apart within Barossa Shiraz for its refusal of over-extraction: despite the region's ripeness, Torbreck's winemaking prioritises structure over alcohol bombast, resulting in a wine that balances dark fruit intensity with savoury mineral grip. The 2007 vintage—a warm, dry year—produced wines of particular concentration and aging potential.
Drink now through 2025 as secondary flavours develop and tannins soften into the wine's mid-palate architecture.
