Barossa Valley Moppa Shiraz

Kalleske's Moppa Shiraz originates from a single vineyard site in the Barossa Valley's Moppa district, where deep red volcanic soils and north-facing aspects create conditions for ripe, structured Shiraz. The vineyard sits at moderate elevation typical of Barossa's premium pockets, where diurnal temperature swings preserve acidity in fruit that would otherwise flatten in the valley floor heat.

Kalleske employs minimal intervention in the cellar—whole-bunch fermentation in open vessels with native yeast, extended maceration to extract tannin structure, and maturation in older French oak (avoiding new-wood dominance). This restraint allows vineyard character to dominate over winemaking signature, a deliberate choice that distinguishes the label from Barossa's oak-forward mainstream.

The special feature here is old-vine provenance—Moppa's blocks include material planted in the 1950s–60s, yielding lower yields and concentrated phenolics without the jammy overripeness that plagues younger Barossa fruit. Drinking window: 2024–2032.
