Aop Bordeaux
฿
Château Les Maurins sits on the clay-limestone plateau characteristic of Bordeaux's Right Bank, where autumn drainage and moderate summer heat favor Merlot ripeness without excess alcohol. The vineyard's south-facing aspect accelerates phenolic maturity in the primary varieties.
The blend—predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc support—undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in concrete and stainless steel, preserving aromatic precision. Post-fermentation, the wine spends 12–14 months in French oak (30–40% new wood), allowing subtle vanilla and toast integration without dominating the fruit structure. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel, softening acidity and adding textural breadth.
This is a mid-weight expression: approachable within 2–3 years of vintage, yet structured enough to develop for 8–10 years in cellar. The moderate new-oak regime reflects a house philosophy favoring terroir expression over oak signature—a deliberate restraint increasingly rare in commercial Bordeaux at this price tier.
