Cotes du Rhone Villages "Plan De Dieu"
฿
Plan de Dieu — the name translates to "God's Plan" — sits on a distinctive limestone plateau in the southern Rhône, where Grenache thrives on shallow, chalky soils at 200–250 meters elevation. The site's morning exposure to the Mistral wind moderates heat and preserves acidity, a critical advantage in this warm terroir.
F. Jeantet's Villages-tier expression centers on Grenache (typically 60–70%), supplemented by Syrah and Mourvèdre. The fruit undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in concrete or stainless steel, preserving aromatic freshness, followed by 12 months in neutral oak or large-format vessels to avoid oak dominance. The limestone-derived minerality remains the wine's signature: a saline, flinty undertone that distinguishes Plan de Dieu from richer, more fruit-forward Côtes du Rhône cuvées.
This is a food-driven Rhône built for the table rather than the tasting room — structured enough to age 5–7 years, immediate enough to drink within 2–3 years of release. The 2021 and 2022 vintages show the appellation's characteristic balance of ripe red fruit and herbal restraint.
