Giuseppe & Luigi Schioppettino Tre Venezie I.G.P.
฿
Schioppettino remains one of Italy's most obscure indigenous varieties, nearly extinct by the 1970s before Friuli producers revived it. Reguta's expression anchors this recovery story in the Tre Venezie I.G.P. zone of northeastern Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where limestone-rich soils and cool Alpine influence shape the grape's signature austerity.
The vineyard sits at moderate elevation on calcareous marl, the mineral substrate that defines Schioppettino's tense, peppery character. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with native yeasts, preserving the variety's natural acidity and allowing the wine to develop without oak intervention. This restraint is deliberate: Schioppettino demands minimal extraction to avoid harsh tannins.
The special feature here is the wine's transparency—Schioppettino's thin skins and low pigment yield a pale garnet color, yet the palate delivers concentrated black pepper, dried herb, and slate minerality. This is not a fruit-forward wine; it is a textural study in tannin structure and acid tension.
Drink 2024–2028 for optimal freshness and definition.
