Gevrey-Chambertin "Regnard"
฿฿฿
Domaine Hubert Lignier has farmed the Regnard vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin for generations, a village-level site on the eastern slope of the commune where limestone-rich clay soils and northeast aspect create conditions for balanced ripeness and natural acidity retention.
The 2019 vintage (or current release) is destemmed and fermented in open wooden vats with native yeasts, then aged 12–14 months in French oak—a mix of new and one-year-old barrels—before bottling without fining. The result is a mid-weight expression that prioritizes the site's mineral spine over extraction, with silky rather than aggressive tannins.
Lignier's philosophy resists over-oaking; the wine's structure comes from careful fermentation management and the vineyard's natural phenolic ripeness, not from wood dominance. This restraint is the estate's signature—Pinot Noir that tastes of place first, technique second.
Drink 2024–2032. Peak drinking window: 2026–2030.
