−9%Founded in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin has spent four generations building a house philosophy that prioritises terroir transparency over extraction — a discipline that shapes every tier of the range, including this Côte de Nuits Villages. The Côte de Nuits Villages appellation draws from the northern and southern fringes of the Côte de Nuits, where clay-limestone soils at moderate elevation produce Pinot Noir with firmer structure and darker fruit character than the lighter gravel-influenced soils further south in the Côte de Beaune. Vinification follows total destemming for village-level reds, with fermentation and maceration in small open vats over two to three weeks using indigenous yeasts, pigeage and pumping-over. Élevage proceeds in French high-forest oak barrels (228L or 300L) for 12–18 months at 15–25% new oak, with decisions made by tasting evaluation rather than fixed protocol. What sets Drouhin apart at this level is the biodynamic farming underpinning the fruit: the estate completed full ECOCERT-certified organic and biodynamic conversion by the 2009 vintage — an extraordinary commitment across 100 hectares. The 2022 vintage delivered phenolically ripe fruit from a hot, dry growing season, with good structural backbone; the wines are approachable now but will reward two to four years of additional cellaring.
