Chateau Clerc Milon 2019
฿฿฿
Acquired by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1970, Clerc Milon was deliberately repositioned over decades through parcel-by-parcel replanting — a long-game investment that now pays out in the 2019 vintage. The estate sits on the deep gravel-over-clay plateau of northern Pauillac, immediately adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, where the thick Günzian gravel cap forces vine roots deep, restricting yields and concentrating phenolic ripeness. The 2019 blend leans on Cabernet Sauvignon as its backbone, with a notably elevated proportion of Petit Verdot — a house signature that adds structural ink and violet aromatic lift uncommon among Pauillac peers. Fermentation proceeds in temperature-controlled vats, followed by maturation in French oak barriques, a significant portion new oak, for approximately 18 months. The 2019 growing season delivered a warm, dry summer with a timely August rain, producing grapes of exceptional ripeness and natural tannin density without overextraction. The result is a wine built for the cellar: primary dark fruit and graphite are present now, but the architecture rewards patience through the mid-2030s.
