Chateau Lady Laroze Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2015
฿฿
Grand Cru, Saint-Emilion.
Château Laroze occupies a south-facing parcel on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion's Grand Cru zone, elevation 60–80 meters, where Merlot dominates the blend across soils rich in iron oxide and montmorillonite clay. The 2015 vintage benefited from a warm, dry growing season—ideal ripening conditions that pushed phenolic maturity across the estate's 18-hectare vineyard.
The wine underwent traditional Bordeaux maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete and wooden vats, followed by 18 months in French oak (approximately 50% new). This aging regime allows the clay-driven minerality to integrate with the oak's vanilla and spice structure without overwhelming the wine's mid-palate fruit. By 2024, the 2015 has shed its primary fruit intensity and entered a secondary phase where leather, dried plum, and graphite emerge—a natural evolution for a Saint-Émilion of this weight.
Laroze's consistent use of Merlot-forward blending (typically 70–75%) with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon produces wines with supple tannins and early approachability, distinguishing it from the harder, more austere Cabernet-dominant châteaux of the Côte. The 2015 is drinking well now and will hold through 2030.
