Reserva Rioja

SaleReserva.
Montecillo's Reserva anchors itself in Rioja Alavesa's limestone-clay soils, where Tempranillo vines benefit from the Atlantic's moderating influence and diurnal temperature swings that sharpen acidity. The estate sits at moderate elevation across the subregion's cooler northern flank.
Production centers on 24 months in American oak, a signature Rioja protocol that imparts vanilla and spice while preserving the varietal's red-fruit core. The wine undergoes traditional malolactic fermentation in barrel, softening tannins while building complexity. Bottling follows without fining or filtration in many vintages, preserving textural depth.
This Reserva exemplifies the Alavesa style: restrained power rather than extraction, with secondary flavors (leather, dried herb, tobacco leaf) emerging from extended oak contact and bottle age. The 2019 and 2018 vintages show classical structure—neither fruit-forward nor austere, but architecturally balanced for 8–12 years of cellar development.
Drink from release through 2032.
