Crianza Rioja
฿฿
Bodegas Vallobera is a family estate rooted in Rioja Alavesa, the northernmost and coolest of Rioja's three zones, where the Cantabrian Mountains act as a rain shield and force vines to dig deep into clay-limestone soils for moisture. That geological stress — calcareous marl over compact clay — is the engine behind the grape's characteristic firm acidity and tight-grained tannin structure. The wine is built from Tempranillo grown at elevations approaching 600 metres, where the diurnal temperature swing preserves aromatic freshness that lower-altitude Rioja Alta or Baja sites rarely achieve. Crianza regulations require a minimum of 12 months in oak and 12 months in bottle; Vallobera fulfils this with a split regime of French and American barriques, the American component contributing coconut-edged vanilla while French oak adds spice integration without overwhelming the fruit. The result is a Crianza that leans on Alavesa's natural acidity rather than extraction, keeping the profile taut where many peers in the same price tier go soft. Drink now through 2027 for primary fruit lift, or cellar to 2029 for fuller tannin resolution.
