Tenuta di Biserno Insoglio del Cinghiale DOCG
฿฿
Tenuta di Biserno was established in 2001 by brothers Lodovico and Piero Antinori on a separate estate from Ornellaia, deliberately planted on the inland hills of Bibbona rather than the Bolgheri coastal strip — a choice made to exploit cooler, higher-elevation conditions at roughly 100–150 metres above sea level. The soils here are a mix of clay, sand, and marine-origin limestone, retaining moisture through dry Maremma summers and moderating the ripening curve. Insoglio del Cinghiale — named for the wild boar wallows on the property — is the estate's second wine, blending Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by ageing in French oak barriques, a portion new, for approximately 12 months before bottling. The Cabernet Franc component gives the wine its characteristic graphite and dried herb spine, while the Syrah contributes dark fruit density unusual for a Bolgheri-area blend. The DOCG designation (upgraded from DOC) reflects the appellation's evolving recognition of quality tiers. Drink from release through 6–8 years; the clay subsoil fraction supports medium-term cellaring without demanding it.
