−11%When Lodovico Antinori — architect of Ornellaia and Masseto — sold those estates and turned his attention to the stonier, hillier hills of Bibbona, he made a deliberate varietal bet: Cabernet Franc, not Cabernet Sauvignon, would anchor the house. Il Pino di Biserno is the estate's second wine, built on that same conviction. The ~49-hectare estate sits at roughly 90 metres above sea level on soils of calcareous clay dense in calcium carbonate and the mineral-rich 'Bolgheri Conglomerate,' with gravelly upper slopes reserved for Cabernet Franc; constant Tyrrhenian Sea breezes suppress summer humidity and preserve aromatic lift. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted on conveyor, and vinified plot-by-plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel with 3–4 weeks maceration at a maximum of 28°C; 75% of the volume then ages 12 months in a mix of new and used French oak barriques, while 25% remains in steel — a split that preserves the Franc's herbal precision against oak weight. The blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot deliberately excludes Cabernet Sauvignon, making it one of the few coastal Tuscan reds at this level built entirely without the region's dominant variety. The 2022 vintage has no specific estate notes on record, but the wine's structure and the estate's track record on calcareous conglomerate suggest drinking well from 2026 through 2034.
