Bolgheri Rosso DOC
฿฿
Grattamacco sits on the Tuscan coast near Bolgheri, a microclimate shaped by Mediterranean sea breezes that moderate temperature swings and extend ripening across clay-limestone soils. The estate's position 200–300 meters above sea level captures cooling nocturnal air that preserves acidity in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
The Bolgheri Rosso undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by 18 months in French oak (mix of new and neutral barrels), allowing the maritime terroir's mineral spine to remain visible beneath ripe dark fruit. Malolactic conversion occurs in barrel, softening the wine's structural edges while retaining freshness.
This expression balances Tuscan ripeness with Atlantic-influenced restraint—a deliberate counterpoint to the region's heavier Super-Tuscan paradigm. The coastal location prevents the overripeness common inland, yielding a wine with tension between fruit density and acidity.
The current vintage displays dark cherry, graphite, and dried herb aromatics, with a mid-palate that reflects the wine's limestone foundation. Drinking well now through 2032.
