Domaine de la Mordorée Vin de France "La Reine des Bois Tavel" - Rosé
฿฿
Christophe Delorme's family has farmed Tavel since 1986, and La Reine des Bois — "Queen of the Woods" — is the estate's flagship expression of France's only appellation dedicated exclusively to rosé. Tavel sits on the right bank of the Rhône, where a mosaic of sandy clay, limestone galets, and alluvial terraces forces vine roots deep, concentrating extract and preserving natural acidity despite the region's intense Mistral-scoured heat. The blend is anchored by old-vine Grenache, complemented by Clairette, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre, unified through an extended cold maceration on skins that gives the wine its characteristically deep salmon-copper hue and textural grip unusual among Provençal rosés. Fermentation proceeds at controlled temperatures to preserve aromatic precision, with a portion of the wine seeing oak aging that adds structure without overwhelming the fruit. What separates this cuvée from the appellation norm is its deliberate architecture for aging: Tavel law permits no white wine, and Mordorée exploits that full-extraction mandate to build a rosé that rewards two to five years of cellaring. The result is a wine of genuine vinous weight — closer in ambition to a structured red than to a pale summer rosé.
