The GlenAllachie
The GlenAllachie Sinteis Series 2014 Chinquapin & PX Cask Matured (700 ml)
฿5,200
When Billy Walker acquired GlenAllachie in 2017, he inherited a warehouse of pre-Walker-era spirit distilled during the Chivas Brothers blending era — stocks that had spent their formative years in anonymous service. The Sinteis Series exists to give those casks a singular identity through deliberate, unconventional wood intervention. This 2014 expression pairs Chinquapin virgin oak — a white oak subspecies native to the American South, prized for its tighter grain and higher vanillin yield than standard American oak — with Pedro Ximénez puncheons, the same variety that anchors over 30% of GlenAllachie's total maturation programme. The distillery sits at the foot of Ben Rinnes near Aberlour, Banffshire, drawing process water from spring- and snowmelt-fed streams via Blackstank and Heanshead Dams; that cold, mineral-clean water underpins the fruity, muscular new make produced through 160–164 hour fermentation — among Scotland's longest standard fermentation windows, engineered specifically to maximise ester formation. Bottled at natural colour, non-chill filtered, and at a minimum 46% ABV, the Sinteis 2014 is unusual within Speyside for deploying Chinquapin oak, a cask type virtually absent from Scottish maturation practice, layering coconut-rich virgin wood tannins directly against the raisin-dense sweetness of PX. Drink now through 2032.
