The 16 Year Old undergoes double cask maturation: spirit first matures in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, then transfers to ex-Oloroso sherry butts for a secondary period — a deliberate sequencing that layers vanilla and coconut from the first wood with dried fruit, marzipan, and dark spice from the second. At 16 years, this is the oldest expression in Aberlour's standard range, allowing the sherry influence to fully integrate rather than dominate. Bottled at 40% ABV, the whisky is chill-filtered to maintain clarity at retail temperatures.
