The Glenrothes 25 Years Old (700 ml)

When Berry Bros. & Rudd began releasing Glenrothes by distillation year in 1993 — treating Scotch maturation with the same vintage logic applied to Bordeaux — they established a cult following that Edrington inherited when it reunited brand and distillery in 2017. The 25 Year Old is the age-statement expression that now carries that legacy forward.

The distillery sits in a sheltered glen beside the Burn of Rothes at the foot of the Mannoch Hills, drawing production water exclusively from four private on-estate springs naturally filtered through volcanic bedrock — a geological rarity in Speyside that contributes mineral clarity to the base spirit.

Distillation runs through five tall copper pot stills fitted with oversized boiling balls, deliberately operated at approximately half the flow rate of comparable Speyside distilleries to maximise copper reflux and build a bright, estery new make. Only the hearts cut — less than roughly 20% of total distillate — enters maturation. The spirit then spends 25 years predominantly in first-fill sherry-seasoned butts (European and American oak, up to 700 L, sourced from Jerez) held in traditional dunnage warehouses, with ex-bourbon barrels playing a secondary role. Bottled at 43% ABV, natural colour, non-chill-filtered.

What distinguishes this expression within the Speyside canon is the on-site cooperage — one of very few in Scotland — where four coopers repair approximately 6,000 casks annually, giving Glenrothes direct control over cask integrity across a quarter-century of maturation that peers simply cannot replicate.
