Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond 18 Year Old Single Malt Whisky (700 ml)
฿9,400
Loch Lomond's Alexandria distillery occupies a former Victorian iron foundry on the southern shore of Loch Lomond, straddling the Highland Boundary Fault — a geological divide that places this site firmly in Highland classification while sitting just 25 km from Glasgow. The distillery's founder developed straight-neck pot stills fitted with 17 fixed copper rectification plates, a design never replicated elsewhere, capable of producing spirit at up to ~90% ABV versus the ~68–70% of conventional swan-neck stills — yielding a lighter, more floral malt character that distinguishes Loch Lomond from every other Highland producer.
The 18 Year Old is built on minimum 92-hour fermentations — extended deliberately to 160 hours in some batches, roughly double the Speyside industry norm — to develop long-chain esters and deep fruit complexity before distillation. Primary maturation runs 18 years in ex-bourbon American oak hogsheads and barrels, the house's preferred vessel, which drives the characteristic honey and vanilla register. Caramel colouring and chill-filtration status are not universally confirmed across the core range.
What no peer does: the same campus that produced this malt also runs continuous column stills on 100% malted barley mash — making Loch Lomond the only distillery globally to produce peated single grain whisky alongside its single malts. The 18 Year Old delivers the extended-fermentation fruit architecture at full maturity, with the bourbon-oak sweetness fully integrated after nearly two decades.
