Tamnavulin distillery sits on the banks of the River Livet in the Livet Valley, Speyside, where soft, mineral-light water drawn from the Cairngorms has shaped a characteristically gentle new-make spirit since the distillery's founding in 1966. That softness is by design: the site's relatively high elevation and cool microclimate slow maturation, allowing cask influence to accumulate gradually rather than aggressively.

The Sherry Cask Edition is built around triple sherry cask maturation, combining Oloroso-seasoned hogsheads for dried fruit and walnut depth, Pedro Ximénez casks for dark molasses and raisin richness, and Fino-seasoned casks for a saline, oxidative counterpoint that lifts the sweetness. The simultaneous use of all three — rather than a sequential finish — is the defining production choice here, producing a layered sherry profile without the one-dimensional sweetness that single-cask-type expressions can deliver.

What sets this expression apart within the Tamnavulin range is the Fino component, an uncommon inclusion in sherried Scotch that introduces a dry, almost briny tension against the PX sweetness. Bottled at 40% ABV, it is chill-filtered for commercial clarity. Drink now through the near term; the sherry integration is already cohesive and does not require further cellaring.
