Douglas Laing's Timorous Beastie (700 ml)
฿2,899
Named after Robert Burns's 1785 poem addressing a field mouse, Timorous Beastie is Douglas Laing's structured argument that the Highlands speak in one coherent regional voice — a deliberate counterpoint to single-distillery thinking. The blend draws exclusively from three Highland single malts: Glen Garioch (Aberdeenshire), Glengoyne (Stirlingshire boundary), and Blair Athol (Perthshire), each contributing a distinct topographic register — coastal grain influence from the east, unpeated fruit-driven spirit from the south, and heathered, waxy weight from the central Highlands. This geographic triangulation is the house's method of building terroir into a blended malt. Bottled at 46.8% ABV with no added colouring and no chill-filtration, the natural oils and fatty acid esters remain intact — a non-negotiable standard across the entire Douglas Laing portfolio, adopted long before the industry normalised it. Maturation relies on refill cask stocks selected personally by Fred Laing Jr. and Cara Laing from filling contracts that trace back to the company's 1948 founding. What sets Timorous Beastie apart within the blended malt category is its strict regional exclusivity — every component distillery must sit within the Highland designation, making it one of the few blended malts with a genuinely enforced appellation logic. The NV expression delivers dried heather, beeswax, and orchard fruit with a waxy, full-textured palate that benefits from 10–15 minutes of air.
