Glenfarclas Heritage Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700 ml)
฿2,389
When the Grant family reverted from steam heating back to direct gas-fired copper pot stills in the early 1980s — abandoning the change within weeks after finding steam fundamentally stripped the spirit's depth — they codified what Glenfarclas has always been: a distillery that refuses to compromise texture for convenience. That decision still shapes every drop produced at Rechlerich Farm, Ballindalloch, on the north-western slopes of Ben Rinnes at roughly 244 m elevation, where soft, slightly mineral spring water from Ben Rinnes feeds the mash tun and the surrounding Banffshire climate provides slow, even maturation in traditional dunnage warehouses with earth floors and stone walls.
The Heritage expression draws on Glenfarclas's defining cask regime: Spanish Oloroso sherry butts sourced exclusively from José Miguel Martín, reused across multiple fills to calibrate wood influence without overwhelming the spirit. The six large pot stills — wash stills of approximately 29,600 L each, all direct-fired — generate a characteristically oily, Maillard-rich new make that integrates the dried-fruit and roasted-nut register of Oloroso oak over time. Natural colour and no caramel addition are non-negotiable house standards across the range.
What sets Heritage apart within the Glenfarclas lineup is its entry-point accessibility without sacrificing the house's sherry-dominant architecture — a rare proposition in a portfolio where the distillery otherwise insists on full age statements from 10 to 40 years. Expect dark dried fruit, fruitcake spice, roasted hazelnuts, and a faint Ben Rinnes mineral thread on the finish.
