Dewar's 18 Years Old Blended Scotch Whisky (750 ml)
฿3,149
When John Dewar's sons codified the practice of returning a finished blend to oak casks for further rest, they created what the industry now calls marrying — and Dewar's 18 Year Old is the most mature expression in the core range to carry that signature through in full. Aberfeldy Distillery, drawing water from the Pitilie Burn artesian spring on the southern bank of the upper River Tay in Highland Perthshire, anchors the blend with new make produced in medium-height onion-shaped copper pot stills after extra-long larch washback fermentation — a deliberate choice to maximise the honeyed ester development that defines the house character. Up to 30 component single malts and grain whiskies — including worm-tub-condensed Craigellachie and the delicate Royal Brackla — are individually matured for a minimum of 18 years, predominantly in American oak ex-bourbon casks, before Master Blender Stephanie Macleod assembles them by nosing at the Glasgow facility. The finished blend is then re-casked for a further minimum six months (Double Aging), the step that separates Dewar's structurally from virtually every blended Scotch at this age tier. What is unusual here is precisely that integration: 18 years of primary maturation followed by a mandatory marrying period produces a textural cohesion — heather honey, dried orchard fruit, toasted vanilla, and a faint Perthshire smoke — that most blends at this price point achieve only in younger, less complex expressions. Bottled at 40% ABV; chill-filtration status is not publicly disclosed.
