Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond 21 Year Old Single Malt Whisky (700 ml)
฿13,300
Duncan Thomas built Loch Lomond's distillery in 1964 on a former Victorian iron foundry in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire — a site whose old brick warehouses and modern racked structures create genuinely varied maturation microclimates across the same campus. That industrial heterodoxy extends to the stills: three distinct still types operate simultaneously, including straight-neck pot stills fitted with 17 fixed copper rectification plates — a design Thomas developed at Littlemill in the 1950s and never replicated elsewhere — capable of producing spirit at ~90% ABV versus the ~68–70% of conventional swan-neck stills. The 21 Year Old draws on primary maturation in ex-bourbon American oak hogsheads and barrels, a regime the distillery credits with driving honey and vanilla character, underpinned by fermentations running a minimum 92 hours and up to 160 hours — roughly double the Speyside norm — which builds the long-chain esters that sustain complexity across two decades of oak contact. What no peer can replicate: this whisky was distilled at the only address in Scotland producing both malt and grain spirit on a single site, sitting precisely on the Highland Boundary Fault. After 21 years, the extended fermentation fruit has integrated fully into the oak framework; drink now through the next decade.
