Plantation Fiji Islands 2004 Vintage Limited Edition Rum (700 ml)
฿5,449
Alexandre Gabriel's double-ageing model was built on a single conviction: that Caribbean rums finished in European cellars — as they once did in 17th-century port warehouses — develop a structural complexity no single-climate maturation can replicate. The Fiji 2004 Vintage Limited Edition is the proof from the South Pacific. Distilled at the Rum Co. of Fiji from a sugarcane-derived base, the spirit first underwent tropical ageing in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels in Fiji's equatorial climate, where the angel's share runs at 6–7% annually — concentrating the distillate at a rate more than double what France's temperate cellars allow. The aged rum was then shipped to Château de Bonbonnet, Ars, Charentes, for a second maturation in ex-Ferrand French oak Cognac casks, layering dried-fruit depth and baking-spice tannin structure over the tropical core. The brand library notes Fiji expressions receive between 8–15 years of tropical ageing before continental finishing — placing this 2004 vintage among the longer-rested single-terroir releases in the portfolio. What distinguishes this bottling within the Plantation range is its origin: Fiji is the sole Oceanic terroir in a portfolio otherwise anchored in the Caribbean and Latin America, producing a distillate character that sits apart from both the high-ester Jamaican marks and the coral-limestone-influenced Barbados rums. Drink now through the late 2020s; the Cognac-cask tannins are fully integrated and the tropical fruit concentration is at its expressive peak.
