Plantation Panama 2008 Vintage Limited Edition Rum (700 ml)
฿4,719
Alexandre Gabriel's double-ageing doctrine — reviving the 17th–19th century practice of shipping Caribbean rum to European cellars for further maturation — finds a precise expression in this 2008 Panama vintage. The distillate was first matured tropically in Panama in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, where the equatorial climate drives an angel's share of 6–7% annually, concentrating the spirit far faster than any European cellar could. It then crossed the Atlantic to Château de Bonbonnet in Ars, Charentes, for a second maturation in ex-Ferrand French oak Cognac casks — the same barrels that shape Maison Ferrand's own eau-de-vie, imparting dried stone fruit, baking spice, and a tannin architecture absent from any single-climate ageing regime. Panama's column-still distillation produces a cleaner, lighter-bodied distillate than the pot-still Jamaican marks in Plantation's portfolio, making the Cognac cask's structural contribution unusually legible here — dried apricot, toasted oak, and a waxy, almost Armagnac-like mid-palate emerge without the ester noise of a high-funk base. The Limited Edition vintage format means this is a single-year, single-origin release rather than a blended expression, preserving the character of one specific harvest and distillation campaign. The extended tropical ageing from 2008 onward, combined with the Cognac finish, places this well into extra-aged territory; drink now through the mid-2030s as the French oak integration continues to evolve in bottle.
