Dictador 20 Year Colombian Rum (700 ml)
฿3,289
Dictador was founded in Barranquilla in 1913 by Julio Arango Palacio, who deliberately chose the Caribbean coast of Colombia — where year-round temperatures exceed 30 °C — because the relentless heat forces rum into and out of wood at a rate that compresses what would take 40 years in Scotland into 20. The distillery sits in the Atlántico department, drawing on molasses from Colombian sugarcane harvested in a single-crop tropical cycle that produces a richer, more concentrated base than multi-harvest cane regions.
The rum is produced via a solera aging system, meaning no single drop is exactly 20 years old — rather, the youngest component in the blend has rested a minimum of two decades, with older fractions continuously refreshing the casks. Maturation takes place in a combination of ex-bourbon American oak barrels and ex-sherry casks, layering vanilla and coconut from the bourbon wood against dried fruit and oxidative depth from the sherry influence. The rum is bottled at 40% ABV.
What separates this expression from most aged Caribbean rums is the solera discipline applied at a 20-year minimum floor — a commitment that makes consistent release volumes genuinely difficult and keeps the liquid unusually dense with wood-derived compounds for its proof.
