Gran Reserva Diez 10 Years (700 ml)
฿฿
Bacardi's roots in Cuba date to 1862, when Facundo Bacardí Massó installed a charcoal filtration system — then radical — to strip the harsh congeners that defined Caribbean rum of the era. That same commitment to controlled refinement defines the Gran Reserva Diez, the house's 10-year age-stated expression. Distilled from molasses at the Santiago de Cuba facility, where the island's southeastern heat accelerates oak interaction through aggressive seasonal temperature swings, the liquid undergoes a decade of maturation in American white oak casks, previously seasoned to temper tannin extraction. The Caribbean climate drives angel's share losses far exceeding those of temperate-zone spirits, concentrating the remaining liquid significantly over the aging period. Bacardi's signature charcoal mellowing step follows maturation, removing heavier fusel compounds while preserving the vanilla, dried fruit, and toasted wood character accumulated across ten years. What separates this expression from the standard Bacardi Reserva Ocho is not merely two additional years but a deliberate selection of barrels showing deeper caramel integration. Bottled at 40% ABV, it drinks with more textural weight than the house's younger tiers.
