Plantation Barbados 5 Year Rum (700 ml)
฿2,029
When Alexandre Gabriel revived the 17th-century practice of shipping Caribbean rum to European cellars for a second maturation, he anchored the method to a specific address: Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD), Blackrock, St. Michael — a coral-limestone coastal site founded in 1893, whose seafront warehouses sit close enough to the Atlantic that the angel's share carries salt air. That maritime influence is structural here, not incidental.
WIRD's low-elevation, Atlantic-facing microclimate accelerates tropical aging at 6–7% angel's share per year — roughly three times the loss rate in France — concentrating the molasses-derived base before the rum ever boards a ship. The Barbados 5 Year undergoes five years of tropical maturation in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels at WIRD, then travels by sea to Château de Bonbonnet, Ars, Charentes, for a continental finish in ex-Ferrand French oak Cognac casks. That second climate — cool, humid, slow-oxidative — grafts dried-fruit depth and baking-spice tannin structure onto the Caribbean core without erasing it.
Special feature: This is a single-island expression — no blending across origins — making it the clearest unobstructed read of WIRD's coral-limestone Barbados terroir within the Plantation range. The Cognac-style dosage (toasted brown sugar aged in Ferrand Cognac barrels) is openly disclosed, a transparency rare in the category. Drink now through the near term; the Cognac-cask finish integrates fully at room temperature.
