Malibu Original Coconut Rum (700 ml)
฿915
Launched in 1982 and named after the Malibu beach district of Barbados, this expression was purpose-built to deliver Caribbean coconut flavor at a sessionable strength — a deliberate commercial decision that separated it from full-proof rum liqueurs of the era. The base is a light Barbadian white rum, produced from molasses in the island's warm, humid climate, which suppresses heavy ester development and keeps the spirit clean and neutral — the ideal canvas for flavoring. Natural coconut flavoring is blended into the rum at 21% ABV, a below-standard-strength bottling that classifies it legally as a spirit drink rather than a straight rum. No oak aging is applied to the finished product; the white rum base itself is lightly aged before blending, contributing minimal wood character. Chill-filtration ensures the bright, clear appearance that has defined the product since launch. What sets Malibu apart within the coconut rum category is its near-universal market penetration — it remains the global volume benchmark against which every competitor coconut expression is measured. Best consumed young and cold; no meaningful development occurs with bottle age.
