When the Bols family began distilling on the outskirts of Amsterdam in 1575, their earliest flavour palette was built on botanicals arriving via Dutch East India Company trade routes — cardamom, orange, cumin — a supply chain that gave the house unmatched access to tropical aromatics long before any competitor. That same sourcing philosophy underpins the Lychee expression today. Production follows the house liqueur method: botanical esprits and/or tinctures are blended with 'Eau Divine' (a 20% ABV sugar solution), neutral grain alcohol, fruit juice, and purified water, then left to marry until approved by the Master Distiller at the Lucas Bols Distillery, 31 Pijlsteeg, Amsterdam. No cask aging is applied; the goal is preservation of fresh fruit character rather than oxidative complexity. ABV sits within the house liqueur range of 17–24%, calibrated for cocktail integration rather than sipping weight. What distinguishes this expression within the Bols range is its tropical-floral profile — lychee sits outside the citrus and berry core that dominates the catalogue, making it one of the few expressions that directly references the house's historical VOC botanical sourcing in flavour as well as philosophy. As a non-vintage blend governed by 'Semper Idem,' batch-to-batch consistency is the explicit production target.
