De Kuyper Blue Curacao (700 ml)
฿695
De Kuyper, founded in 1695 in Schiedam — the Dutch city whose dense concentration of windmill-powered distilleries once made it the jenever capital of the world — has produced fruit liqueurs continuously for over three centuries. Blue Curaçao draws its name from the sun-dried peel of the laraha citrus, a bitter orange native to the Caribbean island of Curaçao, whose arid volcanic soil produces fruit too astringent to eat but intensely aromatic when dried. The liqueur is built on a neutral grain spirit base, with laraha peel maceration delivering the characteristic bitter-orange oil character; the vivid cobalt colour is added artificially, a deliberate visual convention that distinguishes it from the clear or amber Triple Sec style while sharing the same flavour profile. ABV sits at 20%, keeping sweetness and spirit heat in check for cocktail-building use. What sets Blue Curaçao apart categorically is that the colour carries zero flavour contribution — the blue is purely theatrical, a bartender's tool for layered drinks and colour-forward cocktails that an uncoloured orange liqueur cannot achieve.
