Remy Martin X.O. Cognac New Year of Dragon Limited Edition 2024
฿11,009
Founded in 1724 by Rémy Martin — a Charente vintner born near Rouillac — the house made a commitment that still sets it apart three centuries later: every expression, from VSOP to Louis XIII, qualifies as Cognac Fine Champagne AOC, a dual-cru restriction most rivals apply only to prestige tiers. The XO is the fullest expression of that philosophy in the standard range.
Both source crus share a defining geological signature: deep, permeable chalky-calcareous subsoils that retain moisture through Charente's dry summers, sustaining grape acidity and concentrating aromatic compounds in the Ugni Blanc fruit — the same mechanism that drives complexity in Champagne's chalk-driven wines.
Production carries two house-wide technical signatures. First, distillation on the lees in traditional alembic copper charentais pot stills — a deliberate choice most major houses avoid — adds measurable aromatic depth to the base spirit. Second, aging exclusively in French Limousin oak from trees at least 100 years old, wood seasoned outdoors 2–3 years before coopering; the large open grain drives pronounced vanilla and spice exchange across the blend's 10–30+ year maturation arc.
The XO blend draws on up to 400 individually selected eaux-de-vie, youngest at minimum 10 years — a selection breadth that is the special feature here, enabling textural layering no single-cru or shorter-aged peer can replicate. This 2024 release is dressed in a Year of the Dragon limited-edition presentation; the liquid inside is the standard XO blend, non-vintage by AOC regulation.
