Hennessy X.O (700 ml)

Maurice Hennessy created the XO designation in 1870 as a private reserve for family and friends — a category he invented, and which the entire cognac industry subsequently adopted. That origin as a personal standard, not a commercial one, still defines the ambition of the blend. Sourced from over 1,500 independent partner growers across Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, and Fins Bois, the eaux-de-vie draw on soils ranging from the shallow clay-limestone chalk of Grande Champagne — which drives the structural depth suited to long aging — to the clay-flint of Borderies, which contributes a rounder, more aromatic register. Over 100 eaux-de-vie aged up to approximately 30 years are assembled by the Fillioux family, sole Master Blenders for eight consecutive generations — an unbroken 200-year lineage unique in global spirits. Distillation in traditional Charentais copper pot stills includes both lees-on and lees-off batches, with heads and tails reintroduced to the brouillis before the second pass — a deliberate congener-concentrating technique that separates Hennessy's assertive house profile from lighter-styled peers. Aging rotates between Limousin oak barrels produced at Hennessy's own cooperage, using staves from forests purchased over 40 years ago. The result is a cognac of dark dried fruit, roasted oak, and building spice — bottled at 40% ABV, lightly filtered, non-vintage.
