Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal Gift Collection (Limited Edition)
฿4,089
Named for the year Louis XV granted Rémy Martin exclusive rights to expand his vine plantings — a royal accord that cemented the house's obsessive focus on the two highest-ranked Cognac crus — the 1738 Accord Royal is built entirely from Fine Champagne AOC eaux-de-vie, blending Grande Champagne (minimum 50%) and Petite Champagne exclusively. No Fins Bois, no Bons Bois: a restriction most rivals apply only to prestige cuvées, here applied across every expression in the range.
The deep chalky-calcareous subsoils of Grande and Petite Champagne retain moisture through dry seasons, preserving grape acidity and concentrating aromatic compounds in the predominantly Ugni Blanc fruit — the structural reason Fine Champagne cognac ages longer and more gracefully than blends drawing from heavier clay crus.
Rémy Martin's defining production signature is distillation on the lees in small charentais alembic copper pot stills — residual yeast sediment retained through both distillation passes, each cycle running approximately 24 hours. Most houses rack clear before the still. The resulting spirit carries measurably greater aromatic density. Maturation follows in French Limousin oak — large-grain barrels from trees at least 100 years old, wood seasoned outdoors 2–3 years — progressively moved into older barrels as the spirit develops.
The 1738's special position in the range is its deliberate middle register: richer and more oak-integrated than the VSOP, without the decade-plus age commitment of the XO, finished at 40% ABV.
