Adelaide Hills

A cool-climate region just east of Adelaide — one of Australia's most diverse, growing everything from riesling and sauvignon blanc to shiraz and cabernet.

About the region

A cool-climate region just east of the city of Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills is one of the most geographically diverse regions in Australia. A wide range of grape varieties — everything from riesling, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay to shiraz and cabernet sauvignon — grows here. Viticulture in the Adelaide Hills began in the 1840s, but a modern industry took hold only after the 1970s. It is one of the top regions of South Australia, the state that produces more than half of all Australian wine.
