Klein Constantia KC Sauvignon Blanc
฿1,000
Dating back to 1685, Klein Constantia is one of South Africa’s most historic and beautiful wine estates, originally part of the vast Constantia farm established by Governor Simon van der Stel. Located on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg with sweeping views across False Bay, the estate gained global fame in the 18th and 19th centuries for its legendary sweet wine, Vin de Constance, which was cherished by historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte and Jane Austen. After being devastated by phylloxera in the late 1800s, the estate underwent a meticulous revival starting in 1980 under the Jooste family, who restored the vineyards and resurrected the estate’s winemaking legacy using original clones and traditional records.
The unique terroir of Klein Constantia is defined by its cool maritime climate and ancient soils composed of decomposed granite and Table Mountain sandstone. These well-drained slopes are cooled by ocean breezes, providing the perfect conditions for slow-ripening grapes that retain high natural acidity and vibrant aromatics. Klein Constantia’s winemaking philosophy, led by winemaker Matthew Day, emphasizes restraint, precision, and minimal intervention to allow the terroir to shine. As a WWF Conservation Champion, the estate is deeply committed to sustainability, employing organic and biodynamic practices to preserve its biodiversity while crafting elegant, balanced wines that reflect both its historic tradition and modern innovation.
