−20%Fratelli Ponte built their Roero Arneis program around a deliberate refusal: no oak, at any stage. Where many Piedmontese producers reach for barrique to add texture to Arneis's naturally low-acid frame, the Ponte family vinifies entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel and rests the wine on fine lees for three months — letting the grape's inherent white-peach and almond character speak without wood interference.
The fruit is sourced from Canale d'Alba and Castellinaldo, two communes on the Roero's right bank of the Tanaro where calcareous and chalky soils — lighter and sandier than the clay-heavy Langhe across the river — give Arneis its characteristic floral lift and a saline, mineral thread that heavier soils suppress. Early September harvest locks in aromatics before the variety's tendency toward phenolic ripeness takes over.
The DOCG Roero Arneis designation requires 100% Arneis, and Fratelli Ponte meets it with single-variety fruit from both communes blended for consistency. No oak contact at any point is the defining technical signature — unusual even within the appellation, where partial barrel fermentation is permitted and practiced. The result is a wine whose texture comes entirely from lees contact rather than wood, preserving the grape's delicate bitter-almond finish that oak would mask. Drink within 2–3 years of vintage for peak aromatic freshness.
