Richland is a volume-driven label sourced from the Riverina, the flat, irrigated alluvial basin of New South Wales where the Murrumbidgee River deposits deep sandy loam and clay soils across near-sea-level vineyards. The region's continental heat — long, intensely sunny summers with low humidity — pushes grapes to full phenolic ripeness rapidly, producing fruit with generous natural sugar and soft natural acidity.
This Chardonnay is produced in a unoaked or lightly oaked style, prioritising primary fruit character over winemaking intervention. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel to preserve freshness, with no significant lees aging or malolactic fermentation programme that would add textural weight. The result is a clean, fruit-expressive wine bottled early to retain varietal lift.
What distinguishes Richland within its price tier is the deliberate restraint on oak — where many entry-level Australian Chardonnays lean on heavy American oak to mask dilution, Richland strips that back, letting the warm-climate stone fruit character speak without vanillin overlay. Drink within 1–2 years of vintage for peak primary fruit expression.
