Delamotte Brut
฿2,830
Founded in 1760 by François Delamotte — predating Salon by nearly 150 years — the house occupies a structurally unique position in Champagne: in years when Salon does not declare a vintage, contracted Le Mesnil-sur-Oger fruit flows directly into Delamotte's cuvées, making this the only NV Champagne in the world with a documented, recurring supply connection to one of the region's most coveted single-vintage wines.
The Brut draws on Delamotte's own 6 hectares across Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, and Cramant — all Grand Cru — plus Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, Bouzy, and Tours-sur-Marne on the Montagne de Reims. The deep belemnite chalk soils of Le Mesnil, rich in marine fossils and providing exceptional drainage, deliver the saline, tightly wound mineral tension that defines the Côte des Blancs character.
Fermented in stainless steel under temperature control, the blend incorporates reserve wines from at least three harvests, assembled under Cellar Master Michel Fauconnet. The Brut is Chardonnay-dominant, with Pinot Noir from Grand Cru Montagne de Reims adding structural weight — a deliberate departure from the pure Blanc de Blancs identity of its sister house Salon.
That Pinot Noir component is the defining transgression here: where Salon is dogmatically single-varietal, Delamotte Brut uses the same Côte des Blancs terroir as a foundation but builds outward with red-grape structure, producing a more textured, food-versatile expression. Drink now through near-term; the multi-harvest reserve system ensures consistency across releases.
